By changing the narrative around people with IDD, we can end ableism to support diverse and fulfilling communities for all. People with IDD have always told stories for them. It is time for them to tell their own stories, claim their truth, and show the world who they truly are.
WHY CHANGING THE NARRATIVE IS IMPORTANT
Brilliant Truths will open the door for more people who have disabilities to find jobs, education, and homes. It will create connected communities where everyone has the chance for a meaningful and prosperous life.
People with intellectual and developmental disabilities face barriers to housing, education, and meaningful employment because of the structural inequities and ableist discrimination within our society. Those who are Black, Indigenous, and People of Color, as well as those who are LGBTQ+, experience deeper levels of discrimination. We must break down these barriers for everyone to have justice and a joyful life.
We must change the narrative, break barriers, and create a world built on disability justice and equity. Brilliant Truths supports change at local, state, and national levels that will reduce poverty and segregation for disabled people.
